The main activities of the department
Comprehensive study of Taras Shevchenko’s literary heritage, in particular:
- problems of reader (addressee and recipient);
- genre and compositional modifications of lyrics;
- poetics of prose;
- Shevchenko's poetry in the context of Ukrainian romanticism 1830s;
- moral and existential discourse of his poetical thought, and others.
Research work of department
In the years 2012-2015 was published six-volume «Shevchenko’s encyclopedia». This is a fundamental multidisciplinary edition, which sets out basic information about Shevchenko’s life, oeuvre and personality, his era and entourage, place in the national and world culture. Also more than one and a half century experience of studying all the aspects of Ukrainian and foreign Shevchenko studies is summarized.
During the 2014–2018 the department staff has been working on fundamental research called «Reception of Shevchenko’s ouvre: aspects of literary studies». The object of the studies is literary and epistolary heritage of Taras Shevchenko, source base of Shevchenko studies (documents, memoirs, etc.). The aim of research is a comprehensive study of perception and interpretation of Shevchenko’s literary works in 19–21 centuries, transformation of his themes and motives in successors’ ouvre, Shevchenko influence on Ukrainian and foreign poets in genealogic perspective. The research is carried out on basis of modern literary studies methodology: hermeneutic, cultural-historical and comparative-historical, psychoanalytic, receptive, neomythical and textual-analytic methods.
In 2015 in framework of the determined objectives the department staff published 32 scientific papers in national and foreign editions. In particular, there were published collection of articles by O. Boron «Poet and his prose: genesis, semantics and reception of Shevchenko’s ouvre» and D. Yesypenko’s monograph «Borys Hrinchenko’s novelettes ”In the dark night» and” ”Under quiet willows”: texts history and texts in history». In press there were published six popularization articles. Scientists made 18 presentations at scientific conferences, round tables discussions and symposiums (international and national) in scientific and educational institutions of Izmail, Kaniv, Kharkiv, Kyiv and New York.
